Collaborating with Saatchi Art

By the time I had started in the direction that would become Photo.Synthesis, I felt very excited and confident about where I was going. But the ultimate compliment and validation arrived via an email with art world movers and shakers, Saatchi Art, who requested exclusive rights to the entire series!

Photo. Synthesis. explores our affinity and connection with nature through a deliberate focus on what may be initially perceived to be common houseplants. Using my new technique, which combines sculptography, styling and collage, I created a multi-layered composition. The individual elements featured in each piece have been been individually photographed, cut out, layered and reshot. The effect almost looks digitally rendered but it is handcrafted.

My goal was to showcase typical plant shapes in new configurations. By using different light sources for each individual plant or leaf, new shadows and scales were created, created an optical illusion that manipulates the depth of field. By removing regular houseplants from their traditional context, I hope you can reexamine the sculptural beauty of these common plants.

I was beyond thrilled to be invited to not only collaborate with Saatchi Art with these Limited (and exclusive!) prints, but to be featured in their Collections. These curated selections have been hand-picked by Saatchi Art’s Chief Curator, Rebecca Wilson. I feel truly honored to be included!

Living with plants has long been understood to provide both physical and mental well being; from circulated air to a sense of calm (something I needed after the process to create it!) When you step back, I hope you admire the sculptural beauty of the plants and can reconsider our connection with nature in everyday life. And if you would like to integrate them into YOUR everyday life, you can shop Saatchi’s Limited Collection right here.

See you soon!
