East End Favourites

You may already know that my latest piece, ‘Botanica’ was originally created as a very special commission for a very special spot. You can purchase your own fine art paper edition via my website, but there’s a framed resin finished edition hanging up in one of my very favourite Leslieville spots; the delicious new location of Lady Marmalade!

Even if my work wasn’t hanging there, I would still urge you to go enjoy an amazing brunch in the space (but with ‘Botanica’ there, that just gives you one more reason to go check it out!) Which made me think; what other East End favourites would I send you to?

So here’s a compilation of some of my very favourite spots in Leslieville and Riverside, where you can eat, shop, enjoy a great weekend. You may end up with #FOMO if you don’t!

1. Lady Marmalade

Lady Marmalade’s new location has just opened at 265 Broadview Ave. and as I mentioned, ‘Botanica’ is the one and only featured art gracing the wall there! Enjoy classic brunch & lunch dishes or select from the Mexican-inspired plates. (A favourite of mine is ‘HUEVOS RANCHERITOS’ and I would totally recommend trying the House Hibiscus Iced Tea or the perfect Pilot Coffee brew!

2. Coffee & Clothing

What could be better than a vintage proud paired with an independent coffee shop? At 348 Pape, find a one stop shop for a perfect Sunday. Order an espresso and find your perfect worn denim.

3. Tiny House Mama:

Even if it wasn’t created by my good friend and Hair & Home Stylist Stacey, you couldn’t keep me away from this perfect shop! Located at 265 Gerrard and curated with everything from bespoke furniture, home furnishings, paper goods to ceramics and jewelry, you can count on gorgeous finds from near and far greeting you in this cozy spot, located in the East End’s Chinatown. If that wasn’t enough, Tiny House Mama also boasts an array of beauty products, a hair studio (aka their famed “turquoise hair chair”) AND décor & design services! Seriously, what more could you ask for?

4. Pinkertons & The Vatican Gift Shop

Another Gerrard East Spot (1026 to be exact), this is a go-to destination for cool cocktails, snacks and ambiance. The raw interior provides an instant vibe which is matched by a menu of cask options (for beer lovers) and craft cocktails as well.

If you’re a night owl, and up for a place to listening to live music or dance’n to the favs of old, you can head across the road to The Vatican Gift Shop. Just push past the romanesque door in the corner to emerge into a red-tinged, low-lit speakeasy serving European brews, amaro cocktails, and Neopolitan pizzas. And please, please make use of the dance floor!

5. Surf the Greats

You might be surprised to find a functioning surf shop in Toronto’s east end, miles (and miles) from the nearest ocean. But Surf the Greats (located at 250 Carlaw) teaches surfing and leads surf expeditions on the Great Lakes and beyond! You’ll find equipment to buy, surf gear you can rent, you can sign up for any courses & expeditions or just enjoy the atmosphere at their Café.

6. Good Neighbour

Not only another great Leslieville shop, but also partners and friends; as I often create their window displays! Shop there for both women, men & kid’s apparel, peruse their cute house & home goods or indulge in the bath and body offerings. Confession: this is my go-to destination for the perfect present. Whatever the occasion, they have something for absolutely anyone on your list! Find them at 935 Queen Street East.
