Creating an inspiring 'Work from home' space

Creating a ‘Work from home’ space that's functional and inspiring is essential for nurturing our wellbeing during these surreal COVID times.

Creating a ‘Work from home’ space that's functional and inspiring is essential for nurturing our wellbeing during these surreal COVID times.

As the majority of the population face our new daily realities of working from home. It made us think about forging a deeper connection with our homes and the spaces we are now dwelling in much more than we ever have before.

Needless to say the artists among us, have experienced an up turn in interest and investment for our art! Lovely collectors who may have ordinarily spent their income on travel, are trading their travel expenses for ART experiences!

Only pick what makes you pause

Allowing the unique opportunity to collect and finally bring a handpicked artwork home and create a personalized vista, an extension of their interior style, all their own!

As much as finding a place to travel, needs to fit our wish-list’s budget. This chimes true when choosing an artwork too. And for me it’s important to help my collectors create a vista that they can have ongoing affection and flexibility with. Let’s face it, you may not want to be working from home forever? So choosing a piece that can move around your home and work in many places, is a bonus!

Choose art that reflects who you are

Beyond where you want an artwork to hang, selecting an artwork for your collection pivots around this reaction and the relationship you have to it (and it’s creator). This is especially true when your ‘Work from home Space’ maybe the dining room table, your bedroom or you’ve carved out some space in the basement or lucky you, you already have a home office!?

Any which way you’ve positioned yourself during this time, its worth asking yourself – what attracts me to this artwork? How does it make me feel when I look at it? Would I want to see it everyday?

Create the feel for success

Creating a personal sense of space is important. Surrounding yourself with art and or things that are meaningful to you i.e personal photos of travel, friends and family, your favourite coffee cup, hand cream or a memorable birthday card? Incorporating these things into your work space, as we know, is good for your wellbeing and psyche!

Personally when I look up from my computer at an artwork it's like transporting my gaze and focus on a well deserved visual micro break. And thus allows me to reset and regain my flow and focus.

Regardless of financial value, ultimately if you love the piece you’re purchasing, and you’ll get happiness from seeing it in your home everyday, I think this might just be the best way in which you can receive a return on your investment.
